You can grab the Orange Line in the San Fernando Valley at any of the following stops.
Each stop has one of these machines. It says it takes credit, but it wouldn't work for me. I suggest bringing cash. One $5 day pass will be good to get you all the way to Staples Center and back without worrying about transfers.
The Orange Line stop at Pierce College. You will be taking this all the way to the end at North Hollywood.

The Orange Line bus is sleek and real fast. It took about 45 minutes to get to the Red line from Pierce College. It does get a bit crowded after the Van Nuys stop.
The Red Line is your next destination. You will be taking this all the way 7th Street/Metro Center.
The Orange Line drops you across the street from the Red Line (subway). That 3 ring binder is where you need to go.

The first stop of the Red Line. You don't need to know which way you're going because it only goes to the Union Station from here.
This is the first part of the trip you need to pay attention. Just watch for the following sign. (7th Street/Metro Center) Total time on the Red line 35 minutes.
The Blue line you go a total of one stop. The longest part of this trip was waiting for the Blue line to go!
When you exit the red line and go down a bit you will see the Blue line.
You need to cross to the other side and down some stairs to hop on.
One stop later (10 minutes total) you are at Staples Center!

Now to do the reverse we just did. One word of warning. When trying to catch the red line back to North Hollywood do not hop on the purple line. It uses the same tracks, but splits. The driver was kind enough to tell the few
